Back when Cormac was only two and a half
March 22, 2011
Cormac does this hilarious smile every time we take his picture.

my baby is laughing
This is another one from the holidays. Finn was going to make a video for Santa. But he just got silly, and Cormac thought this was HILARIOUS. Whenever Cormac gets fussy, I show him this video and he cheers right up.

Finn, the Inventor
I'm just now catching up on uploading all my old videos and photos from over the holidays. This is from when we went to Houston to visit Uncle Clintie and Aunt Sudi. Clint and I took Anna and Finn to Space Center Houston. They had this cool exhibit where the kids could build robotics. Here is Finn's creation. I love how he is so (justifiably) proud of himself.

a dance party with Ruby and Porter
Finn was beyond thrilled that we got to spend the evening over at Ruby's for a cookout yesterday. Here are Ruby and Finn, dancing for us, and Porter and Cormac doing back-up.
Some memorable quotes:
[While Ruby goes through her closet, showing Finn her dresses, one-by-one]
FINN: Come ON, Ruby! Just pick a dress and let's go outside.
[After she changes into her new dress...]
FINN: Well, you do look like a beautiful princess now.
[While they are sitting, coloring after dinner...]
RUBY: Finn, what do you think it will be like when we get married?
FINN: I think about that a lot. I can see you doing the dishes in the kitchen, and I'm standing there, talking to you.

finn's latest invention
Finn's new favorite part of school lately has been creating things out of what he calls "recyclements." He's made (obvs) a whole bunch of rockets and robots. On a rainy Saturday, he decided to make this camera. The next thing he wants to make is a typewriter. I am just surprised he even knows what a typewriter is. Here's his tour of his camera project.

4-year-old dance party
I just realized I never posted this! It's Finn and his friends (Dominic, Kellan, Cal, and Sammy) dancing at his Chuck E Cheese birthday party. Their unbridled joy (and daring dance moves) just make me smile.
P.S. How creepy is Chuck E? Also, I might add that he was singing a Marshall Crenshaw song later that day. So at least he has taste.

But does he have to be so cute at 5:30 in the morning? I'll bet this would be just as adorable two hours later or so.

just try not to laugh--or at least smile--while watching this
Nobody--and I mean nobody--can make Cormac laugh like Finn can. The old Three Stooges act of jumping up and down and hitting himself on the cabeza works every time. Right around :30 is when Cormac really starts losing it. Can't you just see these two together when they're older?

a movie only a grandparent could love
OK, this is just a full minute of Cormac cooing. But how cute is he?
go baby, go baby... go, go, go baby
I seriously don't know where he got this, but every time Cormac starts kicking in his bouncy seat, Finn starts doing this funky dance where he sings, "Go baby, go baby... Go go go baby."
Unfortunately, he seems to have inherited the dance talents of his parents. That's his friend, Cal, dancing with him. And you'll see that it ends with him kissing the camera.
* I'm still figuring out how to edit these videos, so it's a little grainy. Bear with me.

Happy Birthday, Cousin Anna!
Finn's Cousin Anna turns TWO today! Now there are double the two-year-olds in the family.
Happy Birthday, Sweet Anna! We look forward to seeing you soon.

ground control to major Finn
Here's Finn, donning my "tankini" and calling it his spacesuit. The laundry basket is his rocketship and pieces of his Thomas the Train Engine tracks are his "stuff" he's taking to the moon. Perhaps Uncle Clintie and Aunt Sudi could advise if this is how you train for spacecamp?
We are so showing this to his girlfriends when he's a teenager.

band name: the terrible twos?
It is currently ten degrees in here Chicago. Every single kid I know is sick. Finn is currently recovering from bronchitis. Not only do I wonder how people ever settled this punishing land in the first place, but I'd like to know how they did so without the relief of having Dora the Explorer Tivoed. I mean, we're pretty much housebound at this point. Dora has been around a little more than usual these days.
Since Delilah and Finn both had bronchitis, Cassie (Lilah's mom) and I figured that, hey! Misery loves company. We're going nuts with these sick kids in the house, let's get them together.
Here they are with a rendition of the alphabet song. Yes, I let them bang away for an hour to burn off some energy. I even let Finn finger paint this weekend, which should indicate how desperate I am for appropriate activities to appeal to the two-year-old mind.

The Finnie Shuffle
Finn does this funny little dance move that we like to call "The Finnie Shuffle." Here he is showing it off for his Internet audience. My favorite part is when he stops to point out an airplane, then immediately picks up again.
The reason he keeps stopping and running away is because he wants me to immediately play back the video on my camera for him to watch. A narcissist, he is.

The boy's already talking like he has a fake ID.
By the way, every time I take his picture, he says, "I see! I see!" and wants me to show him the photo in my camera.

It has been so hot, I thought a little run through the sprinkler would appeal to Finn. But he wasn't so much of a fan.

where's the baby?
This movie isn't for the casual blog reader. It's for all the hard-core Finn Fans out there. The ones who come here to see this guy in all his 11-month glory. Finn unadorned by clever T-shirts, kitschy music, or pop culture references.
Here's Finn playing peek-a-boo behind the curtain with me this week. I find it adorable, but then I am his mother. And yes, I know I sound like a total tool when I babble to him in BabySpeak.

People may say I have too much time on my hands, but they don't know how early I get up in the morning.
July 25, 2006
OK, Finn, now say "Mama"
There really isn't anything like hearing your baby say "mama" on demand. Especially if you're his mama. Here, I bribe Finn with a cookie, which he lustily devours, and murmurs his expanding vocabulary on demand. He's become quite the mimic, like a miniature human beatbox or that guy from the Police Academy movies who could convincingly imitate a lawnmower or siren.
July 20, 2006
it's hard out here for a baby
You think things are rough? Imagine you had to learn to crawl all over again, and you weren't quite sure how your arms and legs worked yet. Finn reminds us that being a baby isn't all teddy bears and footie pajamas.
July 12, 2006
It's been a long time since I've posted a movie. But here's my little Ocean Man in the bathtub. (I know the video is a little wonky and the music plays too long, but expedited cuteness won out over proper editing.)

the daddy show
Here's Finn, mildly amused by the Daddy song and dance show. Trust me, he was giggling like mad right before I started filming, but what can I say, he's a tough audience.
I removed the audio to protect Daddy's dignity.
