meet Hazen Creative's new intern

Shawn pulled a desk for Finn up next to his in his office. Cormac wasted no time in claiming the space for himself, and promptly got right to work. The only real complaint so far is the excess drool on the documents.

finn's house

finn-in-front-of-house-2.jpg, originally uploaded by Daddy Shawn.

Finn's teacher asked all the students to send in a photo of themselves in front of their house for a class project. (Check the bed head in this shot.) Have I mentioned how much I looooove Finn's school? It is truly amazing to me how much he has learned since he started in the Fall. He is literally picking up books and reading them, cover-to-cover, sounding out words, but identifying most of them. He's adding numbers together, and coming up with the most creative projects. (Like the "super soaker/camera" in the foreground of this photo, which he made out of recyclables.) But best of all, he really loves school, which is the most important.

Every time I pick up Finn from school, he is carrying armfuls of crafts and pictures and notes and books that he has designed. As I was filing away some of these for the archives, I realized how incredibly far he has come this year. You can actually read most of the words he writes, identify the pictures, and appreciate his creativity. That little brain is churning away. And you know that, for creative parents, this is akin to him getting homeruns in softball.

mom's birthday visit

IMG_0472, originally uploaded by lisabagg.

Last weekend, mom came to visit for her birthday weekend. We stayed downtown one night (at the Intercontinental! Thanks, HotWire!) and went out on the town. An extraordinary discovery was that the Intercontinental has Eno, a wine/cheese/chocolate bar, in it. Seriously, say no more. Lets just say that we had cheese and wine, went out for dinner, and came back mere hours later for the champs and chocolate.

Despite the fact that I live here, it's ironic how little I find myself in downtown Chicago. It was really fun to spent time in the city with my mom, and wake up in a bed where no tiny gentlemen were tugging at me to wake up at an ungodly hour after said wine and chocolate.

Finn spent the rest of the weekend going to extreme measures to impress Nana, including reading entire books (at four and a half, ladies and gentlemen!), and doing his general comedy routine. As a special touch for the ladies, he does like to pick the spring flowers for them, like violets or dandelions.

blowing bubbles

We officially have a free-range toddler, thanks to this warm weather. Cormac absolutely loves bounding around outside, and only returns inside after (literally) kicking and screaming. The only thing is that I think he thinks he's a big kid, because he's climbing on everything, trying to go in the big swing, running full-speed all over the place, trying to get on bikes...

And I do believe that Spring Fever is an actual affliction, because these two little guys are so pumped from playing in the warm weather that they have been giggling and laughing and talking for sometimes an hour after I put them to bed.

you can call him "Hector"

So, Finn's new obsession is spies. He loves the idea of sneakily collecting information, especially when it involves using gadgets to do so. He has been crafting everything from X-Ray Glasses to underwater vehicles. This weekend, Daddy took him to Chicago's Spy Store () where he got this moustache disguise. He requested that we call him "Hector."

grubby, happy baby

IMG_0450, originally uploaded by lisabagg.

See this grubby baby? The photo actually does not even do him justice. The child was caked with dirt, sidewalk chalk, and various edibles. His shirt was so dirty it looked like a very tiny auto mechanic.

But Cormac is happy (as we all are) that the weather has been north of 70 degrees for about four days straight now. Here, we were at Jen's for a playdate, where the child chased the big kids around and generally reveled in the awesomeness of playing without needing to wear a coat. Or socks/shoes for that matter. The diaper, though. That was not negotiable.

A rainy Easter egg hunt sure beats the snowy ones of the past! Here are some pics from this year's Old Irving Park EE hunt.
